Optimistic October Day 1: Introduction

Optimistic October: A 31 Days of Writing Challenge at amberiam.wordpress.com

I follow a lot of different blogs, since that’s what a wannabe writer should do! On Corie Clark’s blog, she recently mentioned an upcoming writing challenge that involved writing about one topic, in detail, for the entire month of October. I went to the website that inspired it and read more about it. I was initially intrigued, but I couldn’t think of anything to write about, plus I was still working oh-so-hard to not finish Slack-Free September, so I filed it away and thought I would just follow what others wrote.

However, Someone had other plans for me.

Over the last few months, I have found myself becoming more and more negative about things. I’m dissatisfied with things that I shouldn’t be unhappy with, I’m ignoring major blessings and fortune in my life, and, well, I’ve become a whiner. I’ve tried to keep it off of social media because I feel like I read enough negativity there, but those who know me in real life may have noticed it (especially my poor husband. Sorry babe!). I kept feeling tugs at my heart to be more grateful, but I ignored them. I was fine to just keep complaining and whining and not even thinking about writing for 31 days.

I’m not sure what my turning point was, but one day when I was driving to work, I thought of the phrase “Optimistic October.” I love catchy little titles like that, so I let it stick in my brain, not really knowing what to do with it. Then, I saw another one of Corie’s posts about the challenge, and I knew that’s where it needed to go.

Honestly, I don’t have a concrete plan for the month. I don’t really know what I’m going to write about. I have a couple of ideas and may prewrite a couple of posts, but for the most part, it’s just going to be whatever thoughts come out of my head when I sit down to write. Isn’t that what blogging is though? 😉

I do know that I want to focus on some strategies for learning to think more positively, post some inspirational quotes, and maybe even talk to a few people who think of themselves as optimists (if that’s you, leave a comment here or on Facebook so we can talk!). I’m open to any other ideas that anyone may have also.

By the end of the month, my hope is that I can handle life’s little annoyances and difficulties with grace and positivity. If that sounds like something you would enjoy, then join me here for the challenge. I’ll link all of the posts here also so it will be easy to find them later. See you tomorrow!

I am Amber. Amber I am. I like to write things that sound like a Dr. Seuss book, evidently.
