It’s National Book Lovers Day! I was supposed to publish this last night, but now I’m going to pretend like I waited until today for the sake of the day…

Amber Can Read

Before I dive into what I’ve read since July, I’ve got to share the one book I managed to read from my June post to the day that I should’ve posted for July.

I finally read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, and it was really, really, really good. It was extremely challenging to read at times but very eye-opening. I highly recommend it!

Books read this month : 3

Book 1 : Love Story by Karen Kingsbury – Karen Kingsbury books are my guilty pleasure and literary crack. I can’t turn them down, even if they’re usually incredibly cheesy and semi-predictable. This one was pretty good though! Or maybe I’m just brainwashed…

Book 2 : Where is Baby’s Belly Button by Karen Katz – My month of books by women named Karen continues. This was another Imagination Library book. Charlotte was indifferent about it. I was fascinated. Where is baby’s belly button? Where is his hat? What is behind this flap? Mystery upon mystery upon mystery.

Book 3 : I Will Take A Nap! by Mo Willems – And my non-Karen book of the month rounds out my three reads. Ha! I think the Elephant and Piggie books are adorable, so when Charlotte received this from one of my friends, I was really excited. Char has started pulling books down from her bookshelf when she plays, so I will read a couple of them to her while she’s playing. I got really into this one, doing voices and everything. I think she appreciated my performance because she stopped playing for 2.5 seconds to look at me. I’m winning at life.

Have you read anything good lately? Let me know in the comments or on my Facebook page!

  1. I had the same reaction to The Hate U Give. It also prompted me to research a little more about the Black Lives Movement. I’ve moved onto lighter reads in August. I’m currently loving (indulging) in Jenny Han books. So cute.
