Fall Home Tour : A TBB Talks Linkup

This week’s linkup prompt on The Blended Blog is Fall Home Tour. I thought I would do something a little different but something I’ve been wanting to do for a while – a before and after of our current house – but today will only be the before!

I’ll be showing the after on Tuesday, October 31. Yep, Halloween! And that’s totally part of my grand plan and has nothing at all to do with the fact that I have boxes everywhere and Char’s room looks like a bookstore exploded in it…

A little backstory for anyone who is new around here – my mom and dad keep Char during the week while we work and he goes to class. Our old house wasn’t super far from their house, but we had talked about how nice it would be to live closer, especially when Will worked weekends and she and I were home allllll day by ourselves (and with Koopa hahaha).

We have a family friend who is a real estate agent, so I emailed him and just let him know that we were interested in finding something a little closer to my parents’ house (which he sold them nearly 18 years ago!). A few days later, he emailed me with a link to this house:

It was about a mile from my parents’ house, and it was a HUD home, which meant that if we were interested, we would have to put a bid on it. Since we had bought our previous house from Will’s father (and we had been renting it from him before that), this was a new world for us!

We took the grand tour a couple of days later. As we pulled up, there were people leaving, and when we left, there were more people coming to look at it! Our real estate market is crazy right now, and since this house wasn’t super ridiculously overpriced, our agent told us not to get our hopes up too high when we submitted our bid.

Needless to say, we were shocked when he called us a few days later and said that our bid had been accepted. And, oh yeah, be prepared to list our house by the end of that week. Talk about pressure!

We were able to list our house and get a contract on it on the same day! I told you our market is crazy! We closed on both houses at the end of June, and this is what greeted us at our new house…

Our bathroom – there is another one near Charlotte’s room, but I didn’t get a good before picture of it.

Garage – fun fact, you may have to zoom in to see it, but on the garage door close to the wall, there was a SNAKESKIN caught on the garage door spring. Ew, ew, ew, ew, ew, ew, ew!!!!

That’s a lot of pictures! So, now that you’ve had the “before tour,” come back on the 31st to see the “after” or more accurately, the “in progress” tour!

  1. So glad you got a home closer to your parents’ house! My parents live about a quarter mile from my house (literally) but they bought the house next door to my brother’s house which is two doors down from my house just to be THAT much closer! I totally get it! We love living in community ’round these parts. Thanks for linking up at the Blended Blog!

    1. Wow, Sheila! I didn’t realize you guys all lived so close together. That is really amazing.

Congrats, Amber, on getting this home. It looks roomy and like it doesn’t require a whole lot of work just some TLC. Love the back screened in porch. I had a glassed/screened sunroom with my old house and it was like having another living space.

Looking forward to seeing your fall decor.

  2. I really like your new house, especially that screened porch – must be a nice place to relax and read!
The market here is crazy as well. I would like to sell our home and buy a new one in about 3 years. We bought our house from my grandparents about 4 years ago. It’s in the same town that I have spent my entire life in and most of my family is still here. It’s okay, but the town is declining quickly and I don’t want to send my son to these schools. My parents and I would both like to sell our homes and move to a more rural area. It’ll be the same county but a different town. It’s so overwhelming to think of having to do the whole buying process again PLUS sell a house this time AND pack. EEK! I’m sure it will be worth it though!
