50 Reasons Why I Love My Mom

Today is my mom’s 50th birthday. I know that shocks some of you as much as seeing Luke Perry on the cover of AARP magazineย did, but it’s true!

Here are 50 reasons why I love her*:

  1. She doesn’t care if people knows she’s turning 50. Life’s too short to try to hide your age.
  2. She also doesn’t care that people have made fun of her football team for years…and this may actually be their year…
  3. She managed to keep me alive when I was a baby, even though she and my dad were really young.
  4. Plus, she managed to keep me alive when I was a teenager, even though I probably deserved to be smacked in the mouth…a lot…
  5. She sat through all of those crappy plays I was in during elementary school. Yep, even the one where I was a moth in the underworld. Let that one sink in for a moment.
  6. She also sat through all of my plays in college, usually multiple times, so I would always have someone in the audience to cheer for me.
  7. She was a rock for me when my husband and I lost our first baby.
  8. She also brought us a lot of groceries then, including Oreos. Oreos make sadness a little better.
  9. She is teaching me the fine art of calling someone a putz.
  10. I don’t have to fight against her when I see change on the ground. It’s always mine!
  11. She always gave me a bite of her food…
  12. …Even her steak…want a bite of my steak?
  13. We have so many silly inside jokes like that, and it confuses people…usually the men in our family!
  14. She has an entire room that my dad converted into a closet for her, and I can borrow anything in there, anytime I want…or whenever it’ll finally fit me again!
  15. She taught me to always speak my mind, even if I’m not always good at that.
  16. She always tells me the truth, even when I don’t want to hear it.
  17. She is an upstanding member of the community.
  18. Her coffee addiction usually results in free Starbucks for me!
  19. Hearing her argue with people on the phone is usually the highlight of my week. I’m not even half as good as her at it!
  20. Snap, snap, Sebastian.
  21. She’s way cooler than I’ll ever be. Charlotte may not have a cool mom, but her grandma rocks!
  22. She taught me that I was not a bad person to let other people watch Charlotte when she was a newborn. Sleep is important!
  23. She took me to my first concert, NKOTB!
  24. She took me to my most recent concert, Chris Stapleton! (Okay, technically, her other daughter and I took her, but it didn’t flow as well that way).
  25. She’s warping her other daughter so much that sometimes I forget she hasn’t been in our family her entire life! ๐Ÿ˜‰
  26. She reluctantly accepts Koopa as her granddog (well, maybe not, but it’s on the Internet now, so itย has to be true).
  27. I can ask dumb questions and sometimes not get made fun of…hahahaha.
  28. She always encouraged me to read.
  29. She has always told me that I can do anything and be anything I want to be.
  30. But, she’s been realistic too. She made sure I never tried out forย American Idol,ย So You Think You Can Dance, or any show that requires any physical talents…
  31. She spends her free time doing mundane things for me, like cleaning up my yard…in the middle of July.
  32. She checks on Charlotte every day…
  33. …And she checks on me daily too because this motherhood gig isn’t for the faint of heart!
  34. I know that no one is guaranteed tomorrow, and I’m grateful to have her, especially since I know so many people who don’t have their mothers anymore.
  35. She’s stubborn. If you tell her she can’t do something, then you better expect her to do it or die trying!
  36. She (and my dad!) have taught me what a great marriage should look like.
  37. She told me the truth about all of those boyfriends who I thought were the greatest thing since sliced bread (see, I’m not cool at all). If I had not eventually listened to her each time, I wouldn’t have ended up with my awesome husband!
  38. She was the reason I got into the library field. I never would’ve imagined myself there, but it’s been a fun ride so far!
  39. She always wants what’s best for me.
  40. Her woman crush is P!nk. How many other people can say that about their mom?!?
  41. She always reads my blog!
  42. She can take a joke, even when it’s on her. Still wearing that MB shirt, ma?
  43. There’s no one else I’d rather go to the Southern Women’s Show with. You hear that, mom, NO ONE SO DON’T EVER INVITE THAT ONE PERSON AGAIN BECAUSE SHE RUINED OUR FLOW… ๐Ÿ˜‰
  44. She showed me that you don’t have to wear 15 pounds of makeup and perfume to be beautiful.
  45. She keeps Charlotte while my husband and I go to work, so I never have to worry about daycare costs and whether or not Charlotte is being loved and cared for.
  46. She is the best Goodwill shopper I have ever met, hands down.
  47. I know I can call her anytime, with any problem, and she’ll always help me.
  48. Sheย has always encouraged me to be goofy!
  49. She knows that Batman is superior to Superman.
  50. Because she’s teaching me to be an awesome mom just like her!

Happy Birthday, Mom! We love you!

*Quite a few of these can apply to other people in my life too. Don’t think I’m ignoring you or downplaying the love/good feelings/whatever I have for you, but it’s not your 50th birthday today, you selfish person/people…

Love is…

I know I’m a day behind on Valentine’s Day, but since it didn’t fall on a Monday, I couldn’t publish this yesterday. ๐Ÿ˜‰

About two months after we started dating!

Yesterday was the anniversary of when we started dating, so we’ve officially been together for five years. Wow! As time has passed, I’ve discovered some of the ways that he shows his love for me. Here are just a few…

๐Ÿ’œ Getting up early with the dog on the weekends so you can sleep in.

๐Ÿ’œ Encouraging your not-so-secret dream of becoming a writer.

๐Ÿ’œ Comforting you when you find the doctor’s note for work from when you had a miscarriage.

๐Ÿ’œ Hauling a bookshelf and approximately 7,000 books upstairs by yourself since your 7 months pregnant wife can’t lift anything too heavy and gets winded just from putting on her shoes.

๐Ÿ’œ Actually, hauling anything up or down stairs. We need a pulley system…

๐Ÿ’œ Driving your wife to work and picking her up when she’s nervous about driving on ice.

๐Ÿ’œย Making the best chocolate milk on the planet. Seriously. The. Best.

๐Ÿ’œ Being responsible for cleaning the bathroom 90% of the time. Cleaning the bathroom is the devil’s chore.

๐Ÿ’œ Offering you money from his fun money envelope.

๐Ÿ’œ Telling you how beautiful you look when you’re convinced that you’re the size of a small country and you still have two more months of growing to do.

And these are just the tip of the iceberg!ย Happy (belated) Val-i-versary to my husband! If you’re curious about how we met, check out my post on Nashville Mom’s Blog!
