Day 4

Day 4: Your parents

What to say about my parents…Well, my mom and I are the same person. We look so much alike (and act so much alike) that sometimes her story time children will see me out in public and think that she has dyed her hair darker! My dad is quieter, and my brother is more like him. It’s funny because we’re kind of like 2 sets of twins.

I don’t know exactly how my parents met, but I know that they were young. They were 16 and 21 when they got married, and 16 and 21 when I was born (big year, huh?). They are still married, and I see how much they love each other, which inspires me to hold out for a guy who will love me that much and treat me like my dad treats my mom.

My parents were strict about some things, but really cool about others. For example, I have multiple holes in my ears, and I was never discouraged from dyeing my hair weird colors or going through a “goth” phase (it wasn’t a very good one though…ha). My mom knew that if she had nagged me about those things, it would make me want to do them more! They “made” me get a job when I was a teenager, and I worked in college. I hated it at the time (especially the semesters when I had multiple jobs), but now I’m grateful because those skills are what allow me to work full time and pursue a double masters degree at this stage in my life. I still live at home, and there are some (many) days when I think they’re going to drive me insane, but I know that right now I’m where I’m supposed to be, and I’ll someday miss the closeness we have. I love my parents (and brother!) and am blessed to be a part of this family (even when they’re driving me crazy!!).

Day 3

Day 3: Your first love

In third grade, a young gentleman in my class professed to his mother “Mama, my true love is back.” He had been my kindergarten boyfriend and the only thing that could tear us apart was the cruel fate of my moving to another town. I don’t remember much about our courtship or relationship, but I imagine it involved paste somehow. My mother tells a story to this day of how he got me a really good birthday gift once. I always correct her and tell her it was another person, but I think she likes the romantic aspect of the idea.

Alas, though he was my first love, it wasn’t meant to be. We went on a date back in December, and the thrill from elementary school was gone. He was very nice, and I had a nice time, but it just didn’t work out thanks to the busyness of my life at that point. He was my first love, but he won’t be my last. Cheesy, no?

Day 2

Day 2: Meaning behind your blog name

This one will be short and sweet (like me…ha) because I almost forgot about it. My dreams of becoming a famous blogger are slipping away…

My blog name actually came from my email address. I was looking for something quirky and clever to continue my trend of email addresses such as IH8Grease (the movie…although the substance is gross too) and BiscuitEater (I used to be obsessed with this for some reason). Ambercanread seemed so clever to me, especially since I’m a librarian and am in library school. And of course since I want to be a “world famous writer” I had to add that Amber can write too. That’s it in a nutshell. Nothing too exciting, right? =)

Day 1

Day 1: Introduce, recent picture of yourself, 15 interesting facts

My name is Amber. I can read. The end.

Okay, maybe that’s not the end. I’m Amber, and I’m a librarian who’s currently working on a double masters (education and information science). I have a younger brother, and my parents have been married for almost 28 years. I’m 5’3 on a good day, and we won’t talk about weight since I’ve been going to Weight Watchers for nearly 5 months and have only lost 7 pounds. Pitiful…

Here’s a picture of me from Saturday night being a crazy bunny in Target:

Flattering, right?
And finally, my fantastic fifteen:
1. I’m a HUGE procrastinator…like start stuff on the due date type procrastinator. I’m working to get better at it, but it’s just not clicking for me so far.
2. I think I’m hilarious, and most of the time I don’t care if no one else agrees.
3. I go to the greatest church EVER! I go to Joy Church International, and it’s the only one I’ve ever hated to miss. And they have Saturday night services, which rocks my world. Everyone’s invited! =)
4. I would love to be a comedy writer. I have grand fantasies of restoring SNL to the Tina Fey glory days of yore.
5. I feel that the word yore is vastly underused!
6. I’m a spelling snob…come on, who doesn’t know the difference between your and you’re (and yore…)?
7. I’m very easily influenced. For example, if I’m out walking and see someone riding a bike, I immediately want to go home and get on a bike. I don’t know how I never was influenced to join a cult or anything like that.
8. I’m book smart but don’t have much common sense. It’s kind of sad.
9. I want to do a half-marathon really badly. The only thing stopping me is my own laziness…
10. I actually have a list of things that I want to complete before I’m 30. Considering that I’ll turn 28 in July, I don’t have high hopes for the completion of this list…
11. I’ve never been to summer camp (I don’t know why this is a necessity to share).
12. I’m afraid that one night my bookshelf will topple over and destroy everything in its path.
13. I worry that writing things like I did in #12 will somehow make them come true.
14. My family is one of the most important things in my life. I get wicked protective of them…like Mafia style…
15. I love Jesus.
I thought it would be good to end on an important fact! 😉 1 day down, 29 to go!

30 days of high hopes…

Because I always like to add something new to my life (and because tomorrow is March 1, and I like to start things at the beginning of a new month), I’m going to embark upon the 30 day blog challenge for the month of March…and have a day left over. I want to become more committed to blogging, and I think this might be a fun way to get me into the habit of doing it.
