Charlotte’s Seven Month Update

Charlotte’s Seven Month Update

Hi, my name is Amber, and I am a procrastinator. I’m FINALLY writing Charlotte’s seven month update just a few days before she turns eight months old. Oops!

7-month-collage

One of these things is not like the other…

Height:
at birth: 20 inches.
at one month: 21 inches
at three months: 23.5 inches
at four months: 24.5 inches
at six months: 26 inches

Weight:
at birth: 6 lb 5 oz
at one month: 7 lb 11 oz
at three months: 10 lb 4 oz
at six months: 14 lb 10 oz

Clothing Size:  3-6 months or 6-9 months. She has a few items from Goodwill that are bigger and fit her, but I think it’s because they’ve been washed so many times.

Milestones:
-She had her first Halloween and wore a costume! Unfortunately, she, uh, didn’t really get into the holiday spirit…

Halloween.JPG

Likes: Singing (I’m going to sing my head off to her before she can tell me to stop!), sitting up in her play seat, watching TV, FaceTime with her relatives (and hanging up on them!)

Dislikes: Being alone, which makes our morning routine…interesting…

Sleep: All. Over. The. Map. Starting around Halloween, she just has thrown any kind of schedule out the window. I’ll talk more about this during her 8 month update (which should be published sometime in 2017…hahaha).

Best Moment: I can’t remember one particular moment. I really have to start writing these sooner!

Worst Moment: Halloween meltdown. It was really bad!!

Eating: She loves just about everything she’s tried! — This is still the case! She likes bananas and avocados too!

Mommy Update: I took out the word body because I determined that (a) it was getting old to talk about the same thing each time, and (b) I’m more important than the status of my weight (#selfimportant). I have good days and bad days. Charlotte is an awesome baby, and I have a great support system, from my husband and extended family, but some days, I break down. I know that I can’t realistically expect to “do it all,” but things have always been fairly easy for me, so I don’t know how to deal with struggling with things. I have to remind myself that this is a season of life that will change, just as other seasons of life have changed. I’ve had to say that a whole lot lately in regards to her sleeping!

Overall: Her personality is coming out, and it’s so fun to watch her grow up! I love seeing all of her first holidays and experiences too. Just wait for the Thanksgiving pictures in the next update! 😉

We love you, baby girl!

Charlotte’s SIX Month Update

Charlotte’s Six Month Update

OUR BABY IS SIX MONTHS OLD NOW. (And actually she’s almost SEVEN months old now since it has taken me so long to write this!)

Ahem. Pardon the shouting, but I’m just as shocked as all of you are by this news. It has gone by slowly and flown by all at the same time!

I’m changing up the structure of these updates a little bit since she doesn’t get weighed or measured every month. I thought that might help save a little bit of scrolling!

Height:
at birth: 20 inches.
at one month: 21 inches
at three months: 23.5 inches
at four months: 24.5 inches
at six months: 26 inches

Weight:
at birth: 6 lb 5 oz
at one month: 7 lb 11 oz
at three months: 10 lb 4 oz
at six months: 14 lb 10 oz

Clothing Size:  3-6 months! My mom put on some 0-3 month pajamas on her that were huge on her a couple of months ago, and now they were cropped pants and a belly shirt. It was hilarious!

Milestones:
-She can kind of sit up and support her weight…sometimes. She can be a lazy baby sometimes, so she’s not in any real hurry to sit or roll over. We’re okay with that because we know once she’s mobile, we’re in trouble!

-She’s eating at least three times a day and has gotten the go ahead to try everything except honey. I love watching her face when she tries new foods…like turkey! Ha!!

-I took her and our dog on a walk without my husband’s help! If any of you have met our spastic dog, you know this is a huge accomplishment!

Likes: Being outside, especially in a swing, eating, football, any kind of screens, belly tickles

Dislikes: Socks and shoes (foot prison!), face kisses from her dog brother LOL

Sleep: Lately she has not been napping as much during the day, so she needs to go to bed earlier. We’ve started putting her to bed around 6:30, otherwise, it’s meltdown city! She will generally sleep until 4, wake up and take a bottle, then sleep a little bit longer. Some nights she gets up before 4 to eat and that kind of throws her schedule off, but she’s fairly consistent.

Best Moment: Uh, since I’m writing this way later than I should have, I can’t remember the best from 5 to 6 months. Oops!

Worst Moment: And I can’t remember the worst moment! That’s a good thing!

Eating: She loves just about everything she’s tried! She’s not a huge fan of peaches, but we think it’s because they’re pretty sour. She also didn’t like the turkey and turkey broth, but to be fair, the bite I had tasted pretty terrible! She’s gotten on a pretty good schedule of a fruit in the morning, a veggie in the afternoon, and cereal in the early evening. She also still takes plenty of bottles!

Mommy Body Update: Lose a little, gain a little, lose a little, gain a little. I’m sure the holiday season will REALLY help with this whole weight loss journey too…

Overall: It seems like she changes daily! I barely recognize her in her old pictures, even though it wasn’t that long ago. I can’t believe how fast she’s growing up!

We love you, baby girl!

Charlotte’s Five Month Update

Shameless plug: I’ll be taking over the Nashville Moms Blog Instagram tomorrow. Take a look at our Tuesday! 😉

Charlotte’s Five Month Update

Height:
at birth: 20 inches.
at one month: 21 inches
at two months: Unsure
at three months: 23.5 inches
at four months: 24.5 inches
at five months: Unsure

Weight:
at birth: 6 lb 5 oz
at one month: 7 lb 11 oz
at two months: Unsure
at three months: 10 lb 4 oz
at four months: 12 lb 3 oz
at five months: Unsure (but her thighs are getting chunky!)

Clothing Size:  A few 0-3 month items fit, but now she’s almost exclusively wearing 3-6 month clothes!

Milestones:
-She rolled over from her belly to her back once…when no one was in the room to see it! Stubborn girl! We think it was an accidental roll, but I know it’s going to happen anytime now!

-She’s eating food! She’s tried sweet potatoes, bananas, and carrots so far, along with her cereal. Next up: green peas (ick). I think I know where those chunky thighs are coming from…

-She’s started napping in her crib more, and we’ve put her in her pack and play to sleep at night, instead of the rock and play. She’s still in our room at night, but she naps really well in the crib, so I think once we get some blackout curtains and a humidifier for her room, it might be time to start working on overnight sleeping in there. Of course, I’ll be glued to her video monitor those first few nights!!

Likes: Being held in the air above your head (like an airplane, if that makes sense), eating (always!), watching football (ha!!)

Dislikes: Staying up too late, sitting in her car seat for long periods of time

Sleep: We’re on more of a routine now that her surgery and my leave time is over. We’ve started putting her to bed around 7:30 every night, and it has made a huge difference! She was going to bed between 8 and 8:30, so we haven’t pushed it back much, but it’s been enough to make her happier and let us avoid a nightly meltdown (most of the time). I know we’ll need to keep tweaking her bedtime routine, especially once she’s sleeping in her own room, but this is working well for now, and she almost always sleeps until around 4:30 or 5, then naps again for a little bit before she’s ready to be up (and eat some food!!).

Best Moment: This may sound silly, but I took her somewhere on my own, and it was a great moment for me! Like all new moms, I’ve had doubts and struggles, but I took her on a brief outing and managed to feed her (while in line at a Starbucks drive through…talent) without having another adult with me. She did so well, and we had a good time surprising her dad when he was with some of his friends!

Worst Moment: She had a pretty huge meltdown one night after we had taken her grocery shopping for the first time. I think she was just overtired and overstimulated and she had been in her car seat too long. All of those things were a recipe for disaster! I’ve noticed that I handle these meltdowns better now because I can recognize some of her cues, like her rubbing her hair when she’s sleepy. Plus, once she’s settled and comfortable, she usually calms down!

Eating: She is a human vacuum! She’s still taking her bottles (she took a 7 ounce one the other night!!), but she eats cereal and food at least 2-3 times a day now. She was in the 10th percentile for weight at her 4 month checkup, so let’s see where she is next month during her 6 month checkup!

Mommy Body Update: I’m making progress…slowly (uh, minus the pizza and Pumpkin Spice Latte I had today…). I’ve been eating healthier for a couple of weeks, but I seem to do poorly on the weekends. I think it’s because my husband and I are both home, and we tend to like to go out to eat or grab coffee or snack a lot. I’ve got to get better about that!

Overall: She just continues to grow and change and develop her little personality. I’m falling more and more in love with the little chick, and I can’t wait to see what comes next with her!

We love you, baby girl!

Charlotte’s Four Month Update

Charlotte’s Four Month Update

Height:
at birth: 20 inches.
at one month: 21 inches
at two months: Unsure
at three months: 23.5 inches
at four months: 24.5 inches

Weight:
at birth: 6 lb 5 oz
at one month: 7 lb 11 oz
at two months: Unsure
at three months: 10 lb 4 oz
at four months: 12 lb 3 oz

Clothing Size:  It still depends on the brand. I’ve noticed that Target and Walmart’s clothes tend to run a little big, so she can wear newborn and 0-3 months in those.

Milestones:
-She can hold her head up! It just seemed to come out of nowhere!

-She’s started arching her back and acting like she wants to roll over, so I think I’ll be writing about that in her five month update!

-She mimics noises sometimes, and it cracks me up! She usually likes to say “ooh” and then giggle.

Likes: cuddling, eating (always!), playing with some of her toys

Dislikes: tummy time, being without her pacifier, waiting on someone to fix her a bottle!

Sleep: She’s always been a pretty good sleeper (except the night of her surgery), and the last few days, she’s actually slept 10-12 hours a night! I don’t know what has caused it, but I hope it lasts forever…bahahaha.

Best Moment: Getting discharged from the hospital!

Worst Moment: Her surgery. It went well, and she handled it like a champ, but it was so hard to see her feeling uncomfortable and thinking about her being confused and in pain. The surgery had to be done, and I’m glad we’re on this side of it now, but it was still the first of many, many hard moments that I’ll face as a mother.

Eating: She’s been eating more since she hasn’t been able to use her pacifier, but she’s also always been a big eater! We got the go ahead from the doctor today to try cereal, so we’re really excited to introduce it to her!!

Mommy Body Update: Ugh. I feel like a broken record with this. I honestly haven’t been trying too hard to lose any weight, but I’m frustrated with how I look right now. I know the weight didn’t pile on overnight, and I haven’t been working on it, so I can’t get too upset with myself that I haven’t lost much, but I am. Just, ugh.

Overall: Her personality just continues to grow and develop more each day. She’s such a great baby, and it’s fun seeing her learn new things!

We love you, baby girl!

Charlotte’s Three Month Update

Charlotte’s Three Month Update

Height:
at birth: 20 inches
at one month: 21 inches
at two months: Unsure
at three months: 23.5 inches

Weight:
birth weight: 6 lb 5 oz
at one month: 7 lb 11 oz
at two months: Unsure
at three months: 10 lb 4 oz

Clothing Size:  Mostly 0-3 months, but there are some newborn things that fit her still, and her Mimi bought her a 6 month outfit that fits! Clothing sizes are so inconsistent!

Milestones:
-She has found her hands and is learning how to use them! She can grab things, and she almost got her pacifier in her mouth the other night!

-She has started curling her bottom lip and making a pouty/sad face. It’s so adorable!

-My husband and I took her to a restaurant! She did great! She has been to restaurants before, but it was the first time that he and I took her. Baby steps…

-She waved to one of my mom’s co-workers! I wasn’t there when it happened, but my mom told me that everyone was amazed!

-She has started cooing and “talking” a lot more too. We have a lot of good conversations, especially when I’m changing her diapers.

-She has attended a couple of church services and was dedicated earlier this month. She did great and looked so sweet!

Likes: eating (this one probably won’t change for a while…she is her mother’s daughter!), having people talk to her

Dislikes: napping (sometimes) – she has to know everything that’s going on and will usually fight sleep.

Sleep: She’s sleeping a lot longer at night, generally 8/8:30 – 4, and then she’ll go back down for a bit in the mornings. You would think I would be more productive and/or on time to work with that good stretch, but that’s not the case!

Best Moment: There have been so many! She’s really starting to develop a little personality and is so responsive to things!

Worst Moment: Last week she got her two month shots (we were a little behind because of some insurance drama…more on that soon…), so she was uncomfortable that evening and just melted down when she was ready to go to bed. My husband was also sick with some kind of stomach bug, so he had to stay away from her. Plus, it was a Monday, so it was just a perfect storm. I was so frazzled and frustrated, which only made things worse. We made it though!

Eating: Around every 3-4 hours. Some days she’s ravenous and will take 4 (or 5!!) ounces at a time, and some days she’ll barely finish 2. It’s such a guessing game! –Still the case this month!

Mommy Body Update: I keep losing a little, then gaining a little. I had a blood pressure follow up at the doctor a couple of weeks ago, and he said that it was okay, but not as good as he wanted it. Time to get really serious about this and do some meal planning and look at some strength training routines, along with continuing to walk (and play Pokemon Go…sigh…).

Overall: She is starting to be more fun! I know that sounds horrible, but let’s be honest, newborns are made just to look at and coo over. We’ve survived “the fourth trimester” and it feels like we’re going to make it! She’s an awesome baby, and everyone who meets her comments on her laid back personality. That’s one of the ten million reasons that we’re going to be a one and done family. After all, why mess with perfection? 😉

We love you, baby girl!
