Life Lately : Volume 8

Snapchat-1076342999

I have turned Char into a Snapchat addict. I scroll through the filters, and she will raise her eyebrows and open her mouth at each one to see if anything will happen!

  • Charlotte said a new word yesterday morning! I know that her vocabulary is about to explode, but it still amazes me every time she says a new word and uses it in context! She uses a hand signal to ask me to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (she totally learned it from The Wiggles, so don’t be too impressed with my momming skills here…). Yesterday, she did the hand signal, I sang it to her, then she said “again” and did the signal again. I was floored!
  • I feel like this is the point in the semester when everyone is just dragging and clawing their way towards Christmas break. All of us who teach the freshman foundations classes have an upperclassman student assistant, and my assistant thought yesterday was Thursday. I wish, bro. I wish.
  • Will, my brother, and I saw Thor : Ragnarok Sunday night, and it was fantastic! It was so funny and had enough action to keep it exciting but not so much that it felt like one big fight scene (unlike that one Superman movie that felt like they fought for about 12 hours…). Plus, the theater we went to had recliners! I usually get a little antsy during movies, but laying back in a recliner is a game changer! Plus, it was a couple of dollars cheaper than the theater we usually go to and only about 10 extra minutes of driving. I think I have a new place to see movies. It will be nice to bring a blanket and a box of tissues to see Wonder so I can recline and ugly cry…
  • We had some pretty heavy storms here Monday night, and all of us slept through them! I’m grateful because we had a few sleep challenges last week, and I think we’re all trying to catch up. Do any of you sleep through storms, or are you usually wide awake?
  • That’s about all of the brain power I’ve got right now! Life has been busy but nothing has been happening, if that makes sense! How are things going for all of you? I haven’t been great about responding to comments lately, but leave me one and help me get back in the habit of replying! ūüėČ

Charlotte’s Nine Month Update

Charlotte’s Nine Month Update

img_4320-collage

Height:
at birth: 20 inches.
at one month: 21 inches
at three months: 23.5 inches
at four months: 24.5 inches
at six months: 26 inches
at nine months: 27 inches

Weight:
at birth: 6 lb 5 oz
at one month: 7 lb 11 oz
at three months: 10 lb 4 oz
at six months: 14 lb 10 oz
at nine months: 17 lb 3 oz

Clothing Size:¬†¬†Almost exclusively 6 months and up, mostly because anything smaller is too short on her now! I hope she gets her dad’s long legs!

Milestones:
-Christmas!!! She was fighting some sickness, so it was a little bit of a rough Christmas, but she received so many fun gifts, including toys and adorable clothes! In fact, she got so many things, that we’re saving some of them for her birthday!

-New Year’s Eve! She partied until about 9 o’clock that night. Hey, it was midnight somewhere, right?

-Rolling in all directions like crazy!

-Clapping and snapping! She snaps with her pointer finger and thumb, so it’s not very loud, but it’s adorable!

-Said a couple of new words – Dada and Bubba (what we call our pup sometimes), but of course if you ask her to say them, she won’t!

Likes:¬†Watching the weather! She absolutely loves Al Roker and one of our local weather forecasters. If I say the forecaster’s last name, she’ll whip her head around. In the spirit of her being a 95 year old woman, she also enjoys The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune…just like her mama!

Dislikes: Taking medicine, having her nose wiped

Sleep:¬†We’ve gotten a good sleep routine going again, but we’re now co-sleeping. It’s not my favorite (especially since I wake up sometimes hanging off of the edge of the bed), but we’re making progress with a bedtime routine and sleeping through the night!

Best Moment: Spending more time with her over break! I got a little frazzled, especially when she was sick, but I enjoyed the extra cuddles and relaxation!

Worst Moment:¬†She was sick around Christmas, and it was so pitiful. She even got a nebulizer and some other medicine. If you’ve ever tried to use a nebulizer with a baby, you know how much fun it is. Thankfully, she bounced back to her happy self!

Eating:¬†Anything she can get her paws on! Her doctor said she can have anything but honey, so we give her little bites of what we’re having. She likes almost everything, except scrambled eggs!

Mommy Update:¬†We’re getting there. I think I’m going to leave it at that right now.

Overall:¬†I’ve been pretty hard on myself about a lot of things, but as my mom reminded me the other day, I’m doing this. She’s alive and taken care of and loved and we’re all functioning like semi-normal humans, so maybe, just maybe, I should be a little bit nicer to myself…

Bonus pictures – I don’t know why they’re reversed, but the one on the right is me at 38 weeks, 3 days pregnant (the Wednesday before she was born), and the one on the left is when Char was 38 weeks, 3 days old. She looked bigger in the right picture! ūüėČimg_2181-collage-1

We love you, baby girl!

Charlotte’s Eight Month Update

Charlotte’s Eight Month Update

Height:
at birth: 20 inches.
at one month: 21 inches
at three months: 23.5 inches
at four months: 24.5 inches
at six months: 26 inches

Weight:
at birth: 6 lb 5 oz
at one month: 7 lb 11 oz
at three months: 10 lb 4 oz
at six months: 14 lb 10 oz

Clothing Size:¬†¬†Mostly 6 months+ at this point, but there are still a handful of 3-6 month clothes that fit her…like her Halloween pajamas!

Milestones:
-Thanksgiving! Our girl loves to eat, so she was pretty happy about a holiday centered around food!

img_3683

-She met Santa! I’m a mean mom, so I was hoping for a crying Santa picture, but she loved him!

img_1043

-She’s getting a lot better at rolling over! I feel like she’s a little behind the curve on things like this, but I’m not super concerned. I think that her surgery put her a little behind, and like her doctor says, she’s a little lazy! Plus, I know once she’s more mobile, our world is going to be turned upside down!!

-She can sit up on her own…for a few seconds. She thinks it’s a game to flop backwards when you sit her up, so we only practice on the bed or couch! She can sit supported just fine, so we just need to work on her baby abs!

-She rode on the back of a pug! Ha!!!

img_3740

-She attended her first Circletime at the library AND got her first kiss from a boy. Ask her daddy how happy he was about that one!

img_3885

Likes: Playing, chewing on her feet, eating!

Dislikes: Going to sleep on her own or sleeping in her own bed

Sleep:¬†I don’t know if it’s because she’s teething or what, but sleep has not been good for a couple of months now. She used to sleep from about 6:30 until 4:30 and then laid down a little while longer after a bottle, but she has decided that’s not her jam anymore. Plus, all of the holidays in the last couple of months has thrown off any sort of routine that we had started to create. I keep reminding myself that this is only a season, and since we aren’t having more children, this will be the only time that I will have a baby to cuddle (well, unless she has kids). Also, caffeine is my friend!

Best Moment:¬†Seeing her with Santa was pretty precious! Also, despite the sleep struggles, it’s so sweet when I cuddle with her because as she’s falling asleep, she’ll rub my arm or face. It’s like she wants to make sure I’m there and comfort me somehow!

Worst Moment:¬†Sleep battles…all the sleep battles…

Eating:¬†Our girl is an eater! She eats three meals a day and will stare you down if you’re eating anything in front of her!

Mommy Update:¬†Motherhood is so challenging! I heard that 1,000 times while I was pregnant, but I didn’t realize the scope of it. I think that the challenges are different depending on your personality type and your baby’s personality type, but for me, one of the biggest challenges is not being able to predict anything. I hate to call myself an inflexible control freak, but if the shoe fits…ha! I’m working on being more adaptable, and I see progress sometimes, but it’s very much “two steps forward, three steps back” in my case. Meh.

Overall:¬†Every time I think I have something figured out, things change! I guess that’s life isn’t it?

We love you, baby girl!

Charlotte’s Seven Month Update

Charlotte’s Seven Month Update

Hi, my name is Amber, and I am a procrastinator. I’m FINALLY writing Charlotte’s seven month update just a few days before she turns eight months old. Oops!

7-month-collage

One of these things is not like the other…

Height:
at birth: 20 inches.
at one month: 21 inches
at three months: 23.5 inches
at four months: 24.5 inches
at six months: 26 inches

Weight:
at birth: 6 lb 5 oz
at one month: 7 lb 11 oz
at three months: 10 lb 4 oz
at six months: 14 lb 10 oz

Clothing Size:¬†¬†3-6 months or 6-9 months. She has a few items from Goodwill that are bigger and fit her, but I think it’s because they’ve been washed so many times.

Milestones:
-She had her first Halloween and wore a costume! Unfortunately, she, uh, didn’t really get into the holiday spirit…

Halloween.JPG

Likes:¬†Singing (I’m going to sing my head off to her before she can tell me to stop!), sitting up in her play seat, watching TV, FaceTime¬†with her relatives (and hanging up on them!)

Dislikes:¬†Being alone, which makes our morning routine…interesting…

Sleep:¬†All. Over. The. Map. Starting around Halloween, she just has thrown any kind of schedule out the window. I’ll talk more about this during her 8 month update (which should be published sometime in 2017…hahaha).

Best Moment:¬†I can’t remember one particular moment. I really have to start writing these sooner!

Worst Moment: Halloween meltdown. It was really bad!!

Eating:¬†She loves just about everything she‚Äôs tried!¬†— This is still the case! She likes bananas and avocados too!

Mommy Update:¬†I took out the word body because I determined that (a) it was getting old to talk about the same thing each time, and (b) I’m more important than the status of my weight (#selfimportant). I have good days and bad days. Charlotte is an awesome baby, and I have a great support system, from my husband and extended family, but some days, I break down. I know that I can’t realistically expect to “do it all,” but things have always been fairly easy for me, so I don’t know how to deal with struggling with things. I have to remind myself that this is a season of life that will change, just as other seasons of life have changed. I’ve had to say that a whole lot lately in regards to her sleeping!

Overall:¬†Her personality is coming out, and it’s so fun to watch her grow up! I love seeing all of her first holidays and experiences too. Just wait for the Thanksgiving pictures in the next update! ūüėČ

We love you, baby girl!

Charlotte’s SIX Month Update

Charlotte’s Six Month Update

img_3436-collage

OUR¬†BABY IS SIX MONTHS OLD NOW. (And actually she’s almost SEVEN months old now since it has taken me so long to write this!)

Ahem. Pardon the shouting, but I’m just as shocked as all of you are by this news. It has gone by slowly and flown by all at the same time!

I’m changing up the structure of these updates a little bit since she doesn’t get weighed or measured every month. I thought that might help save a little bit of scrolling!

Height:
at birth: 20 inches.
at one month: 21 inches
at three months: 23.5 inches
at four months: 24.5 inches
at six months: 26 inches

Weight:
at birth: 6 lb 5 oz
at one month: 7 lb 11 oz
at three months: 10 lb 4 oz
at six months: 14 lb 10 oz

Clothing Size:  3-6 months! My mom put on some 0-3 month pajamas on her that were huge on her a couple of months ago, and now they were cropped pants and a belly shirt. It was hilarious!

Milestones:
-She can kind of sit up and support her weight…sometimes. She can be a lazy baby sometimes, so she’s not in any real hurry to sit or roll over. We’re okay with that because we know once she’s mobile, we’re in trouble!

-She’s eating at least three times a day and has gotten the go ahead to try everything except honey. I love watching her face when she tries new foods…like turkey! Ha!!

-I took her and our dog on a walk without my husband’s help! If any of you have met our spastic dog, you know this is a huge accomplishment!

Likes: Being outside, especially in a swing, eating, football, any kind of screens, belly tickles

Dislikes: Socks and shoes (foot prison!), face kisses from her dog brother LOL

Sleep:¬†Lately she has not been napping as much during the day, so she needs to go to bed earlier. We’ve started putting her to bed around 6:30, otherwise, it’s meltdown city! She will generally sleep until 4, wake up and take a bottle, then sleep a little bit longer. Some nights she gets up before 4 to eat and that kind of throws her schedule off, but she’s fairly consistent.

Best Moment:¬†Uh, since I’m writing this way later than I should have, I can’t remember the best from 5 to 6 months. Oops!

Worst Moment:¬†And I can’t remember the worst moment! That’s a good thing!

Eating:¬†She loves just about everything she’s tried! She’s not a huge fan of peaches, but we think it’s because they’re pretty sour. She also didn’t like the turkey and turkey broth, but to be fair, the bite I had tasted pretty terrible! She’s gotten on a pretty good schedule of a fruit in the morning, a veggie in the afternoon, and cereal in the early evening. She also still takes plenty of bottles!

Mommy Body Update:¬†Lose a little, gain a little, lose a little, gain a little. I’m sure the holiday season will REALLY help with this whole weight loss journey too…

Overall:¬†It seems like she changes daily! I barely recognize her in her old pictures, even though it wasn’t that long ago. I can’t believe how fast she’s growing up!

We love you, baby girl!
