Hi, my name is Amber

Today’s Blended Blog prompt is to reintroduce myself to my readers, so I thought I would go all the way back to the basics here.

Hi, my name is Amber.

I started this little blog in June 2009, but it had a different name (AmberCanRead) and was on Blogspot. I go back and forth between wanting this to be a fun hobby and wanting to make millions of dollars and live as a famous blogger who posts pictures of myself sitting beside my dollar sign shaped pool while sipping a fruity cocktail. All or nothing, right?

I’ve been married to my husband Will for five years. We met at a church singles event in November 2010, and our first date was on Valentine’s Day in 2011. We dated for a little over a year and got engaged at a park during a photo session. It’s so cool to have those memories captured forever!

We got our dog, Koopa, in May after we got married. Let me tell you, being a newlywed and having a puppy for the first time ever was a little stressful! I remember asking one of my coworkers if I would ever sleep through the night again! If only past Amber had realized that having a puppy was only a small taste of what having a baby was like! I’ve written about Koopa before, so check out my story about how he joined our family!

In June 2015, we were devastated when I found out I had miscarried my first pregnancy. Then, in August 2015, I found out I was pregnant again. Our daughter Charlotte was born in April 2016 (I CAN’T BELIEVE SHE’S ALMOST TWO YEARS OLD!!). Charlotte was born happy and healthy but had to have surgery to repair her cleft lip and nose. Unfortunately, she may have to have more surgery before she turns 5, but we’ll cross that bridge when it comes. I’ll be writing more to Charlotte for her birthday so stay tuned!

I have worked in libraries for twelve years – first at a public library during my last semester of my undergraduate degree, then at my undergrad alma mater (a small, private university), and briefly at a community college (before returning back to the university). I never really envisioned myself going into this field. I’ve got a Masters in Education and a Masters in Information Science, but I didn’t pay for either them and probably would not have, honestly! I’ve always wanted to be a writer, and there’s no excuse for why I’m not doing it full-time other than I haven’t taken the time to make it a priority.

I don’t really make hobbies a priority right now either. I couldn’t tell you how I spend a lot of my time, which is kind of sad! I imagine that the little red-haired creature above takes a lot of my spare time. The furry creature, husband, and full-time job don’t help matters either. I want to read and lift weights more often, so maybe it’s time for me to do another time management spreadsheet¬†and see what I’m doing with my life!

So, if you’re new here, welcome! If you’re a regular reader, then I hope you enjoyed meeting me again! Be sure to check out some of the other posts on The Blended Blog’s Linkup.

Want to know more about me? Here are 10 random facts for your reading pleasure…

10 on the 10th : 10 Random Facts About Me

I missed this one because of Wellness Wednesday, but I’m always game for linkups that have fun prompts, so I thought better late than never!

10 on the 10th Link-up 2018

(Since it’s actually the 12th, do I have to share 12 facts about me? Hmm…)

  1. I was born in Tennessee and have lived here most of my life, except for a few years when my family lived in Arizona. I remember nothing about it…except the rattlesnakes my parents ate (TOTALLY A FAMILY JOKE).

  2. The first “famous person” I ever met was Ann M. Martin, author of The Babysitter’s Club series. It was at a mall, and I remember there were cardboard cutouts of some of the BSC members on the stage. Somewhere, there is a picture of me rocking my post Valentine’s dance hair and a flannel shirt while posing with one of them!
  3. I once participated in a local grocery store’s version of the show Supermarket Sweep. I have no idea how I got chosen, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t do very well at it, but for a moment, I was famous…in my immediate family…

  4. I will eat or drink weird things for money. This could really accelerate our debt-free journey if I took applications to do this.
  5. I did theater throughout college. My favorite role – Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz, even though the green makeup was nearly impossible to wash off!

  6. I love participating in any kind of trivia contests and Bingo. I think I have a vision of what my retirement life will involve. Sorry, Will. (But not really).

  7. I never had a dog before we got Koopa and didn’t really understand the appeal of them. Now I have a tattoo that has a paw print. It’s amazing what the creatures will do to you.
  8. I will pick up any denomination of coin off the ground, even when others judge me and say “Amber, it’s really gross to stop in the middle of Broadway in downtown Nashville to pick up a quarter out of what you hope was a puddle of water.” That’s what hand sanitizer is for, suckas.
  9. I am a complete and total baby when I get sick, even if it’s just a cold. You know those jokes about “man flu?” That is totally and completely me. I’m also horribly unsympathetic to Will when he’s sick. I’m basically a double-edged sword of terribleness during cold and flu season!
  10. I once won an amateur comedy contest. Granted, there were only three participants, and the winner was determined by audience applause, which worked in my favor since I had quite a few people there, but let’s not look at the little details like that. Let’s just look at the fact that I’m a winner.

Even though I love to talk about myself, this was a lot tougher than I expected! I’m definitely not going for 12 facts!

Linking up with Erin. Be sure to visit her blog and participate in one of the upcoming prompts!
