TBB Asks : Relationships

Happy Monday, everyone! I’m running late on this post because we had such a nice weekend that I spent more time outside than at the computer!

February is the month of love, so this month’s TBB Asks post is all about relationships!

1. Who is your oldest friend/how did you meet? If we’re talking a friend who is in my family, then I would say it’s definitely my mom, and we all know how she and I met! 😉 If it’s a non-relative, then it’s my friend Jen! She and I have known each other half of our lives now (that’s right, isn’t it, Jen?). We knew of each other before we knew each other since her mom and my grandma worked together, but we didn’t officially meet until our freshman year of college when we had such lovely classes as Honors Critical Thinking (blah) and Intro to Computers (hahahaha).

2. Tell us about your circle of support. Who are your people? I have a small circle because I don’t like to rely on people or ask for help a lot. I know, I know. My husband is definitely the number one person in my circle. He knows how to get me out of a funky mood or give me a kick in the butt when I need one! My other people are my mom and our friend Ashli. We have a massive group text going and try to get together monthly. They know all of the good and bad things going on and can help me get through both types of situations!

3. How did you meet your partner? I met him at a college and career singles event at the church we both used to attend. Check out our full “how we met” story here!

4. How is Valentine’s Day celebrated in your home? We usually don’t really celebrate because we’re boring. However, now that Charlotte is getting a little older and more aware of holidays, I feel like I need to hop on Pinterest and start thinking of some cute ways to celebrate!

5. What is your love language? Acts of Service, which is fitting because Will is really great about doing things around the house and taking care of things I put off or don’t want to do (like taking my car through emissions! I really don’t like doing that!).

6. Do you prefer receiving flowers or chocolates? The part of me that’s not trying to eat healthier says chocolates, but the part of me that is trying to lose weight reluctantly says flowers!

7. What is the most meaningful gift you have ever received or have given? It wasn’t for Valentine’s Day, but after we found out Charlotte was a girl and it looked like the pregnancy was healthy and viable, Will got me a couple of beads for my Pandora bracelet. One bead was a little blue stone to represent our first pregnancy since we called that baby our blueberry. The other bead was a little pink stone to represent Charlotte. I wear them on opposite ends of my bracelet to represent both of my kids! 💕

Never Will I Ever

Today’s Blended Blog prompt is really interesting; it’s Never Will I Ever – Things You Will Never Do. There are so many posts in January that focus on things that we’re going to do throughout the new year, but I haven’t seen any that are about things we aren’t going to do. Here are seven things I’m never going to do!

I’m never going to…have another child : We love our triangle family, and although I have moments where I worry that Charlotte will be lonely as an only child, there are just a lot of factors that have contributed to this decision. A pack of dogs, on the other hand, is not out of the question! 😉

I’m never going to…wear uncomfortable shoes more than one time : I may still accidentally buy shoes that hurt my feet, but you’d better believe that those suckers will go on Poshmark or Marketplace as soon as I get home from wearing them!

I’m never going to…get in the financial trouble we’ve been in during the last 18 months : We have made some very poor choices, and then we tried to clean things up on our own instead of asking for help. We have a better plan now and have committed to staying out of debt forever now!

I’m never going to…slog through a book I don’t like just to say I finished it : I have such a hard time not finishing a book, but there are too many books that I want to read to waste time on one that I don’t even like!

I’m never going to…weigh as much as I did at my highest point : Okay, technically my highest point was when I had Charlotte, and we’ve already covered future children in this post, but I will never be close to that weight or the weight I’m currently at again! I have two goal numbers in mind – a really aspirational one and a more realistic one that would still make me happy. I know being healthy isn’t all about weight, but I also know that I need to shed some pounds to be healthier and happier with how I look!

I’m never going to…turn down the opportunity for a nap : I mean seriously, naps are glorious, and I should never, ever avoid taking one when the opportunity presents itself!

I’m never going to…hide when I’m having a tough time mentally : This is a tough one for me because I feel like I should be able to pull myself out of a funk without getting anyone else involved, but it’s not always that easy. Plus, I’ve got a really supportive husband, great family members, and helpful friends and co-workers who are always willing to lend a hand.

Is there anything on my list that you’re never going to do? What do your “nevers” look like? I’d love to hear from you!

TBB Asks : Wonderful Christmastime

Fair warning, I guarantee most, if not all, of my posts this month will reference how quickly this year has gone by and how this is the last linkup, post, or whatever of 2018. You have been warned…

It’s the last TBB Asks of 2018! (see, I didn’t lie above). I haven’t participated in a TBB Asks post since September, so I’m excited to be joining back in today! Christmas is the absolute best, so let’s answer some questions about it, shall we?

TBB ASKS DECEMBER 2018.jpg

1. Candy Canes : Yes or No? Yes, but I don’t like spearmint ones. I also read something about Oreo candy canes recently, and I’m not sure how I feel about that!

2. Christmas morning – early riser or sleep in? We have a toddler. Sleeping in is a rare and glorious occasion on a normal day, but now that she is starting to become aware of what Christmas is (and that Santa will bring presents), I have a feeling like we’ll be waking up earlier than usual for a few years!

Christmas morning 2017 – we were up around 7 AM, which is normal for us!

3. Did you shop on Black Friday : Yes or No? That’s a solid no! We didn’t even leave our house on Thanksgiving or Friday. It was so nice to stay home and be lazy for a couple of days!

4. Christmas tree up in November : Yes or No? Yes! We didn’t put it up until after Thanksgiving, but we still don’t have all of our ornaments on it. Oops! Funny story, my newest co-worker is super into decorating for the holidays, and he wanted to put up the Christmas decorations before Halloween! I’m a Christmas fanatic, but that was too soon even for me!

5. Do you get holiday ideas from Pinterest : Yes or No? Yep! I’ve got a Christmas board on there, but I haven’t visited it in a while. Time to go back through it and add to it!

6. Christmas glam or ugly sweater? Ugly sweater, 200%! I have ugly sweater leggings too. I’m committed to the look!

A lovely Snapchat picture of one of my festive Christmas outfits from 2016!

7. Stocking stuffers : Wrapped or Unwrapped?  Unwrapped – I like to just toss things in as I find them. Also, we’ve heard on good authority that Santa won’t be wrapping his gifts. He also might have bought a canvas bag that he will write Charlotte’s name on and put her unwrapped presents in there. I respect his ingenuity.

8. Traditional or modern Christmas songs? Both – give me allllll of the Christmas music!

9. Fruitcake : Yes or No? I’ve never had it! I looked up a couple of recipes, and it doesn’t sound too bad.

10. Is your Christmas shopping finished : Yes or No? Hahahahahahahaha…does that answer the question?!?

11. Is there snow in December where you live? Typically there’s not, especially since it was 70 degrees here yesterday! I do remember having snow on Christmas around 8 years ago, maybe? It was really pretty!

12. Classic show: A Charlie Brown Christmas or Rudolph? Charlie Brown, no contest!!!

TBB Asks : Getting Cozy

Today’s TBB Asks prompt is all about how I get cozy. Even though the high in Nashville today was 93° F, I have hopes that it will eventually start to cool down, and I can go into full Fall/Winter hibernation mode. Until then, I’ll blast our air conditioner, drink ice water, and pretend that I don’t feel like I’m walking through soup when I go outside…

  1. Slippers: Yes or No? Not usually. I typically just wear socks because if I take off my slippers and leave them anywhere that Koopa can reach them, then they’re goners!
  2. What is your favorite blanket? We have a dual electric blanket that my parents got us for Christmas a few years ago. I really like it because we can set our halves to separate temperatures, and it shuts off automatically.
  3. Thin or Thick pillow? Thick but I don’t like to pile up thin pillows to make a thicker pillow pile. It has to be a nice thick pillow…or else…ha!
  4. Favorite warm beverage? Pumpkin spice lattes, of course. Followed closely by caramel apple ciders and any kind of hot chocolate.
  5. Robe: Yes or No? Nope, but I do have a Snuggie, so I guess that’s basically just a backwards robe…
  6. Favorite comfort snack food(s)? Anything sweet. I have such a raging sweet tooth!
  7. Movies or TV Series Binge? TV series binge. I get too distracted to watch movies in one sitting!
  8. Actual PJ’s or leggings? Actual PJ’s. I actually have a couple of full out onesies that I wear way more often than I should. I’m sure Will really loves when it’s onesie season…
  9. Do you cozy up on the couch or a chair? On the couch, usually with Charlotte and Koopa next to me. Will has a recliner, but every once in a while, we’ll switch places.
  10. Hoodie, T-Shirt, or Sweater? Usually just a plain sweatshirt over a t-shirt if I’m not in the onesie, that is! 😉

TBB Asks : Party Time!

Today’s Blended Blog linkup is all about partying! Too bad this wasn’t last month’s TBB Asks since it was the greatest month of all (AKA my birthday month!)

TBB ASKS AUGUST PARTY EDITION

1. Favorite birthday party as a child? This is a tough one! My parents gave me fantastic birthday parties! One of the coolest parties I’ve ever had was when they rented out a pool at a state park! Not many people attended it, but it was so fun to have the whole place to ourselves!

2. Do you like to entertain? Yes or no? I do! Not only does it make us (um, okay, my grandma) clean our house, but it’s nice to have a house full of people laughing and having fun!

3. What kind of parties are your favorite? We’ve been throwing one for a couple of years called “Happy Holigames” where we get together near Christmas and play different types of board games. Last year my brother brought those jelly beans that you don’t know if they taste good or bad, and that was the terrible hit of the party!

4. Big or small parties? Small – like 15 people or fewer – when we host parties, that’s about all that will fit in our house. When we attend parties (rarely) that’s about as many people as I can handle at once!

5. Favorite thing to do at parties? Play games!

6. Party Food Favorites? We always make buffalo dip because it’s relatively cheap and super easy to make. Last time we also made a huge pan of Bagel Bites, and that went over well.

7. Favorite flavor of birthday cake? Chocolate cake with white icing. Fight me about it, Mom…

8. Balloons? Yes or no? No! I have a constant fear that they will pop, so I’m anxious waiting for that moment to come!

9. Best party song? I tend to like 90s music or Christmas music. I probably have made party playlists in the past, but I’m blank about their contents at the moment.

10. Do you like to dance? Yes or no? Yes, but my dancing skills match those of Elaine from Seinfeld…
